Clear title and meta description
Before anyone sees your homepage, they see a blue link and two lines of text. If that text says only “Home,” they have no reason to trust the click.
What this is
The title is the name of the page in the browser tab and, usually, the main line in search results. A useful title names the firm or the work and stays in a readable length, roughly 15 to 60 characters.
The meta description is the short paragraph under that line. It is not a ranking trick. It is the sentence a stranger uses to decide if this is the right firm. About 50 to 160 characters is a practical range.
“Home,” “Welcome,” or the bare domain are not titles. They tell the stranger nothing about who you are.
Why it matters for trust
People decide whether to open your site from that snippet. A clear title is the first proof that a real firm is on the other side. A vague one feels like a template that was never finished.
The same words also show up when someone shares the link. The preview is often the title and description, not your hero photo.
Write the way you would introduce the firm at a first meeting. Name, work, who it is for. Leave the adjectives that every competitor uses. If the title is so long it gets cut in the tab, shorten the slogan, not the firm name. Read the description out loud. If it sounds like a list of keywords, it is not a sentence a stranger will trust.
Do this
- Write the home title as the firm name plus the work. Example: “Harborline CPA — tax planning for owners.”
- Keep it specific. Drop slogans that could belong to any company.
- Write a description that says who you help and what the next step is. No keyword list.
- Use one description for the home page. Do not paste the same sentence on every page.
- Check the browser tab, then view the page source or your SEO settings and confirm both fields are filled.
- Look at the link preview in a message to yourself. If you would not click it, rewrite it.
How Free Trust Score treats this
A solid title and a description in a useful length help the SEO part of Free Trust Score. An empty title, or a title that is only “Home” or the domain, hurts.
The scan reads the tags on the page. It does not invent a better title for you.
