Why good firms still lose to “we felt more comfortable”

It is rarely the work. It is what shows up when someone searches your name.

An empty conference room after a meeting: a proposal on the table and a laptop open to a sparse search page.

You sent a clear proposal. Your fee was fair. Your work would have been better.

They hired someone else.

They said: We felt more comfortable with the other firm.

Here is what that usually means.

  1. 1. You never asked for the review.

The job closed. You meant to ask. You didn’t. So nothing new appeared next to your name.

  2. 2. You waited for a quiet day.

Quiet days are rare. If the ask waits for spare time, it does not happen.

  3. 3. Happy clients do not post themselves.

They thanked you on the phone. That praise is not on Google. Buyers only see what is written down.

  4. 4. Few reviews make a stranger nervous.

A new buyer cannot sit in your meetings. In ten minutes they can only count reviews and read a few lines. More proof feels safer — even when you are the stronger firm.

  5. 5. You will not fake reviews. So you ask for none.

Right: never invent praise. Wrong: stay silent. The honest move is a real ask after real work, with you in control.

The fix

When a job ends, write a short ask. You read it. You edit it. You send it — or you don’t. Nothing goes to a client until you say yes.

That is Proof Engine by Trust OS.

Every ask starts with your yes. After five, you can turn on auto-send. You can pause anytime. We do not write fake reviews.

Price: $1,200 a year, or $199 a month.
